trifles Journal# 7

This play relates that Susan Glaspell, a reporter, based her one-act play "Trifles" on events that actually happened in Iowa near the turn of the 20th century, which she covered. The author points out that the plot of the play is as if Glaspell didn't like the outcome of the real-life situation and then got to craft her own ending. The paper relates that the themes in "Trifles “are gender relationships, the tug-of-war battles between the sexes, women's perceptive intuition vs. men's bullishness, male chauvinism and the good-old-boy network of criminal justice . After leaving newspaper work, her writing was strictly fictional; until that is her husband, George Cram Cook (a classics scholar with whom she had been involved during his second marriage in a long affair) urged her to write a play. "Glaspell may have been trying to buoy up Cook's artistic reputation by making him out to be the party responsible" for her literary success, something he, Cook, had never achieved. Meanwhile, even though Glaspell herself carried on an affair with a married man, thus hurting another woman, she painted men in "Trifles" as the bad guys." We know the play was based on an actual trial Susan Glaspell covered as a reporter in Des Moines. In this sense, the play was written for a Midwestern audience to dramatize the terrible life of a farm wife, isolated and dependent on her husband for her physical and emotional needs, with the occasional tragic consequences the play depicts. But the play was written after Susan Glaspell had left the Midwest, after she had lived abroad, married, and moved to Provincetown. She had time to ponder the implications of the event and see the tragedy in larger terms, so she was able to transform a journalistic story into a universal drama. One idea of feminist criticism is that literature is based on women’s experience, and ?it is specifically the connective, the accumulative details of experience, that provide the structural key for the comprehension of this story (Alkalay-Gut 1).? Upon entering her home, Mrs. Hale notices that Mrs. Wright left certain things undone, such as dirty dishes in the sink, the half-wiped table, and the half-poured sugar. Being a farmer’s wife herself she understands this, and defends Mrs. Wright when the men criticize her untidiness by replying, .There’s a great deal of work to be done on a farm. She understands what it’s like to have a million things to do and not enough time to do them. Women often make the job look so easy that men like these believe there isn’t much to it. She also knows that these men do not appreciate the effort put forth to manage a household, but more importantly she speaks her mind, asserting her views firmly.

Persuasion

The idea that persuasion is important, and well worth learning, is true for several reasons. First, persuasion can be found almost everywhere humans can be found. As explained above, students, parents, teachers, politicians, sales persons, friends, and others use persuasion in their everyday lives. Mass media from print (newspapers, magazines, direct mailing) to electronic (radio, television, the World Wide Web) positively thrives on advertisements. These are examples of the kinds of situations all of us could encounter, in which we have the opportunity to try to persuade others. Thus, thinking about the varied contexts in which communication occurs shows that persuasion exists throughout human society.

In these situations persuasion exists in one or both of two forms: we can try to persuade others, and other people can try to persuade us. Persuasion, coming from us to others and from others to us, frequently occurs in interpersonal or dyadic situations. Although we rarely have to opportunity to persuade others via the mass media, that is a context in which others frequently develop persuasive messages aimed at us. A moment’s reflection should convince you that understanding the nature of persuasive communication, and how it works, is well worth knowing. Whenever we want to influence others through messages (speaking, writing, or using pictures and symbols), we need to understand persuasion in order to increase the likelihood that our message(s) will be successful. However, it is also important for us to understand the persuasion aimed at us so that other people cannot unduly influence us.

We can also see that persuasion pervades our lives by thinking about the activities that make up our daily lives. Persuasion is a part of education and learning. A college recruiter, alum, or parent may try to persuade us to attend his or her school. Once at school, students persuade their friends when to take classes (e.g., in the morning or afternoon) and which classes to take. Professors and academic advisors can persuade students what major to select, and whether to go to graduate or professional school. Students may persuade professors to accept an assignment late, to change a grade, or to take a test early. Persuasion is a part of work. During employment interviews, we want to persuade the employer to offer us a job. At work, we persuade co-workers about projects, bosses about promotions, and customers about our products or company. We may even try to persuade (rather than order) subordinates about their tasks to keep morale up. Many professions, like sales, politics, and the law, are essentially about persuading others. Persuasion is also a part of recreation and relaxation. We persuade our families, roommates, and friends that we should go out to eat, and which restaurant to patronize. We persuade our friends that we ought to go see a movie, and then which film to see. We tell our friends about a new musical group we have heard or a book we have read, persuading them to buy it. So we persuade each other while learning, working, and socializing. The fact is, most of us have never thought about just how much of our lives are influenced by persuasion.

Perfomance opinion

A performance is a type of an art divided in body expression and oral expression. This two characteristic are co0mbine to do a good performance, but we know that there are many of requirements to do a good performance. The entire group of student where doing a performance in the class the last day. Someone speak about thing s that where happening in our world, others presented theirs poems in the front of the class. I want to talk about all of the student’s presentation but, the time doesn’t give me the opportunity to do it. Here I want to write a piece of my comments or opinions to many performances. First of all I want to talk about mine presentation. I choose the title of “Feel the Heat”. I choose it because I spend too much time learning about global warming and environmental changes. Also I incorporate the idea of talk about the “Apocalipsis” or the revelation and the raining fire. I wrote about it because I want the people make conscience about it and start to do good thing to the world and the humanity. Other presentation that I like is when Pedro Ferrer talks about “Being Original”. I like it because many people use crazy clothes and have their fashions. Many people talk and comment about others clothes and vestments and never looked it themselves. They say; she looks ridiculous. But is thing that the people like his clothes and the way that he wear the clothes. Next of that I want to say that the Angel Cuevas presentation is really great, because he speak about the “coqui” and her own inspiration was a rainy day and the sound of that great animal. The most significant stanza that I consider great that I remember when he says “coqui coqui jump and your song I hear it is very melodious and pleasing my ear” that thing sounds really cool. Those two presentations were the most likeness to me excluding mine. And I cant left behind the presentation of USA versus Japan because ther was the most controversial theme.

Journal #2 My writing experiences and my feelings toward writing.

Journal #2
My writing experiences and my feelings toward writing.

To start talking about my writing experiences is right to know that my skills in that area are not so good. But my feelings are so magic. I have to say that everyone has it, but I am sure that mines are so special to others. If anyone can’t trust me I will be to prove it, but how? This is the question. Later I will to create something who confirms it. One thing that I consider magic or a power of attraction that inspired me to write down is my father. My father is dead, but I consider him alive and he gives me the requirements to write good things to the reader. If I wrote something I think that my father can read it in the glory, and my goods feelings rise up every word that I put in the paper and he feels proud of me. I charge with that thinking’s every time and helps me with writing. My writing experiences depend on a lot of things. One thing is the day that I have to write it. Other thing is the ambience where I wrote it, like the temperature, people around me, and the room (inside or outside). Next thing is the mood that I have in those moments. If I like the discussion theme or the thesis statement or not, that is other thing. Sometimes my writing flow is too slow. In some cases I relax in other thing that interrupted me to write. I am very sensible to that. For example: if I am in the library writing my essay for the English class, there are many people around me walking and talking and I relax on that. If was writing in my computer I relax on other things like: YouTube, MySpace, msn live messenger and continuous stumbling. In my house I relax viewing TV and let the writing homework to other time. Those things subtract time to me. I have to deal with that to get great essays and journals and will be graded with an A+.

What is disgusting for other, not necessarily have to be disgusting for me. Usually I soil to bear many things that nobody thinks they can be able to bear. For example, to conduct the practices with the cows. For me that is something very normal because it is in my experience as a student of agriculture. Other thing more is to work with worms. Many times the lands are not very fertilize and don’t have the nutrients available for the plants. Then it has to apply it fertilizer. That fertilizer is fabricated with some worms that help fertilize the land and I work with some of that worms. Sometimes there are certain foods that not all the people eat. I can eat a lot of foods that regularly a very little amount of people eat. Like for example the tongue of the cow, the pig legs, black beans, broth of dove, eggplant, rabbit roast. That are some of the foods that not many people are accustomed to eat. Also I think that many people finds disgusting when I put tomato sauce (ketchup) in the soup, which is very regular for me. Other people think the opposite of me. I think that many of these things are influences of customs, the way that you were raised, were you were raised and how you see the life. Many parents usually customize their child’s to eat in fast foods, the when that child’s grow up the parents ask them to eat the food that were make in the house and they don’t want it because they don’t like the food available. They may ask why their child’s don’t eat the food of the house, but if when they were child’s too they were usually customize to eat only a time of food and not the one that was prepared at home. That is thing of customs; I was customize to eat all type of food that was made in the house, for that reason for me is regular and for other people is disgusting. Finally, also i would like to share something that for mi is very disgusting and for many people is normal. Is the smoke of the cigarettes I can even tolerate it that is something that many people think and form them is very normal. That’s why I say that what is disgusting for me it can me normal for you, not necessarily it have to be the same of disgusting for other person.
